NO TWO CANCERS AND NO TWO TUMOURS ARE ALIKE - This is the guiding principle used by Prof. med. Dr. Joachim Drevs and his team who founded the private integrative oncology practice UNIFONTIS. The goal of the UNIFONTIS team is to put patients first, not their illness!
UNIFONTIS stands for holistic medicine with a holistic approach. At UNIFONTIS the stage is set for your recovery by using intelligent combinations of methods such as conventional medicine, naturopathy and psychotherapy. Closeness to their patients plays a particularly important role in their treatment approach, as does communication in which they explain the current and future stages of therapy to you.
IT’S WHAT HELPS THAT COUNTS! NEW THERAPIES AGAINST CANCER
Patients are individual – just like our therapy plans. Our plans are tailored to meet the medical, social and psychological needs of our patients. At our practice, you will experience established medical science and new therapy procedures, which we continually develop and enhance through new research results.
Whether by using modern laboratory medicine like biomarker identification and experimental diagnostics on circulating tumor cells, or the latest and most elaborate methods of medical imaging such as PET / CT we rely on advanced technologies that provide detailed insights into the disease process. If the cancer is in an advanced stage, we also treat with innovative tumor therapies such as anti-angiogenesis (tumor starving), immunotherapy or by implementing familiar medications (known as ‘off label use’). These broaden the therapy methods, provided there is sufficient medical knowledge regarding their safety and effectiveness. In order to mitigate side effects, we use complementary cancer therapies.
Again, we take a holistic approach with these treatments. Our micronutrient program helps prevent deficiencies, while the treatment of magnetic fluid hyperthermia strengthens the body’s resilience. Physical therapy will help you regain your strength and endurance. Psycho-oncologic support helps you regain your joy of life and engage your mind in the healing process.
We use new medications for tumor therapy at our private oncology practice. Currently, these include the substance diflunisal, which takes advantage of the acidic tumor environment and can be used in clinical studies or under ‘off label use’.
DIFLU THERAPY This new therapy creates an opportunity to fight the cancer cells of tumors and metastases. It is based on the established knowledge that tumors and metastases occur in an acidic extracellular environment. This characteristic opens up the possibility of selectively targeting cancer cells using active PH-sensitive substances. Combinations of salicylic acid derivatives are utilized in this therapy.
With the Diflu Treatment, the common side effects experienced with chemotherapy are not to be expected. It has been proven in cell experiments that these substances cause cell death (apoptosis) as well as create pores in the membrane of the cancer cell. The active substances identified in this new therapy are the salicylic acid derivative diflunisal (5 -(2,4-difluorophenyl)-salicylic acid), an approved anti-inflammatory medication. Its distinct qualities are strengthened through the complementary application of a second substance, which works synergistically. This supportive function is created using two additional salicylates, also licensed medications. ASA (Aspirin) and PAS (p-aminosalicylic acid), an anti-tuberculosis medication. Therefore, the active medication is a synergistic combination of Diflunisal and either ASA or PAS. All substances are licensed medications for other illnesses.
AMT - Modified Chamomile Extract Therapy The precursor substance AMT has been used worldwide in a variety of promising studies, showcasing its anti-tumoral effect and ability to enhance quality of life. After a critical assessment, modified chamomile extract can be used on patients as part of a medical trial.
Location: Tübingen, Germany
Prof. Drevs, (pictured above), is the Medical Director of Unifontis, and head the oncologic Medical Training and Rehabilitation centre (MTR) in the newly built Tübingen University health centre. The UNIFONTIS private oncology practice operates in the same building, parallel to its function in the MTR. The emphasis on complementary medicine and the holistic treatment is greatly enhanced by the proximity of physiotherapeutic and ergo-therapeutic clinics.
The newly built health centre’s location on the grounds of the Tübingen University hospital offers direct access to all medical departments, an independently run hotel with restaurant, an outpatient rehabilitation centre and complete medical fitness services.
